There is nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa to watch a festive film. Blankets, treats and pyjamas are not necessary, but extremely recommended. There are many classic films to watch around the holidays, and time and time again we laugh, cry and be merry. However, there are also many new and modern films that are just as festive and heartfelt. We listed some of the best Christmas films on Netflix, but now it’s time to look at some of the best holiday films of 2020.
In a true modern-day twist, Natalie (Melissa Joan Hart) runs a holiday romance podcast. It shares true stories of festive romance with its listeners. Natalie seems like a love expert to her listeners but has never actually been in love. She prepares to go on a promotional tour for her new book but not before going home to spend Christmas with her family. However, she unexpectedly runs into a local firefighter named Chris (Jason Priestley) and sparks ignite.
2. Holidate
This romantic comedy stars Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey, who play two singles fed up with being alone over the festive season. They meet at a return counter in a shop and make a promise to be each other’s platonic holiday date this Christmas. They form a bond and their relationship blossoms over the course of the film. (Spoiler alert: it’s not always platonic).
3. Dolly Parton’s Christmas On The Square
This country music icon stars in the film aptly named after her along with a number of other familiar faces. It follows a woman who plans to sell a small town without regard for the people who live there. However, she soon receives a visit from an angel and everything changes. Dolly sings a few of the 14 original songs in this film.
4. Feliz NaviDAD
Mario Lopez stars in this film as David, a dad and principal who works as a delivery driver to avoid festive cheer. He has lost his love for Christmas since his wife passed away during the holidays. This year, everything changes as his daughter and sister sign him up for a dating app and he begins to fall for someone he crosses paths with. This someone is Sophie (AnnaLynne McCord), a musician who is only in town for the holidays. The pair decide to “practice date”, but practice makes perfect, right?
5. Dashing in December
What could be better than an LGBTQ+ Christmas film? This one follows Wyatt (Peter Porte) a businessman based in New York City who travels home to his mother’s ranch in Colorado for the festive period. He catches feelings for a handsome ranch hand. Wyatt’s plan was to sell the ranch, but his new love interest dreams of saving it and the magical Winter Wonderland attraction that comes along with it.
