The joy of sending Christmas cards is an important aspect of the holiday season. Receiving and opening cards from your family and friends is even better. Whether it’s from those who are abroad in faraway countries or simply from your neighbour across the street, a Christmas card is a wonderful sentiment that they’re thinking of you this festive period. However, buying packets of cards can bring an unnecessary expense to an already pricey time. So, why not make your own this year?
Here are some cute and clever Christmas cards to make at home.
This card is simple, but genius. All you’ll need is a black card, googly eyes and a red bead. Use some glue to tie it all together. Firstly, fold the card over onto itself. Next, arrange the googly eyes in sets of two and spread them around the card. Glue them down before deciding who your Rudolf is going to be. When you’ve decided, finally glue the red bead underneath that pair of eyes. Alternatively, you can stick a black front onto a white card so you can write in a normal pen colour such as blue or black. If not, you may need a specific colour of pen so as to see it on the dark background.

2. Forest Silhouette
A winter scene is perfect for any Christmas card. What you’ll need for this card is white/cream card, brown card or paper, scissors, pencil, any coloured string and glue. First, draw tree shapes at the end of the brown card using a stencil, tracing paper or even freehand. Take your scissors and carefully cut them out. Next, take your string and wrap it around the brown sheet before tying it in a bow at the front. Finally, stick the brown sheet onto the folded in half white card. You can use the cut-out trees on another card to reduce waste!

3. Paint Chart Trees
A trip to the paint shop is all you’ll need to prepare for this card. Grab an array of different green rectangular paint charts. Make sure to grab one or two brown charts as well. Simply cut these charts in the shape of a Christmas tree, getting narrower as you reach the top. Next, cut a small square or rectangle from the brown card for your tree stump. Finally, stick the tree and its stump onto a blank card. You can get creative decorating your tree. Use sticky stars or make some with paper and add them to the top or even make some baubles from a different coloured card.

4. Buttons Galore
Buttons are an incredibly handy thing to have lying around the house for repairing holes in your cardigans or for crafts. There are a number of cards you can make using only buttons and pens. For example, use green buttons for Christmas trees, multicoloured buttons for baubles, red and white buttons for candy canes, a brown one for a reindeer or white buttons for a snowman. All you need to do is stick them down before finishing it off with a pen. For baubles, simply draw a string from the top of the card or antlers for the reindeer.
