Children tend to get incredibly excited in the lead-up to Christmas. It can be hard to keep them entertained after you’ve brought them to see Santa or let them stay up to watch the Late Late Toy Show. These kids Christmas crafts will keep you both occupied for hours all while having some fun. Fear not, these DIYs are easy to perfect and look amazing when they’re done.
These adorable stick-snowmen are both cheap and easy to make. All you’ll need are craft sticks, glue, pipe cleaners, ribbon, orange and black markers, small white baubles and googly eyes. First, wrap the pipe cleaners around the top of the stick and glue a small bauble to the top of it. Secure the cleaner to the stick using glue. Next, stick the googly eyes down. Take your orange marker and draw a long triangular nose under the eyes before using the black marker to draw dots for a mouth. Finally, wrap a short piece of ribbon around the middle of the stick and secure it with glue for the Lollipop Stick Snowman’s scarf.
2. Pine Cone Reindeers
This craft combines two recognisable elements of Christmas – reindeers and pine cones. What you will need is brown pipe cleaners, googly eyes, glue, small red baubles or pom-poms and of course, pine cones. Simply glue the googly eyes and bauble to the pine cone before crafting the pipe cleaners to look like antlers. Finally, glue the antlers on to the cone and voila! Your very own little Rudolf.
3. Paper Snowflakes
Paper snowflakes are a classic when it comes to Christmas crafts for children. Anyone can make their own unique flake, just like any real snowflake. You’ll more than likely have the two necessary items – paper and scissors – in your house too, which is a bonus. All you need to do is fold up the sheet of paper over onto itself a number of times. Then, take your scissors and cut small triangles and patterns into the sheet. Be careful doing this. When you’re happy with the final design, pull the sheet open and a beautiful snowflake will be revealed.
4. Festive Toilet Roll
Start saving up your cardboard toilet paper rolls the weeks before Christmas for this one. Not only is it easy to make, but is also a great way to upcycle things that otherwise would have been thrown out. You can get as creative as you want for this one and make many different models. Santa, an elf, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer and a snowman all make for excellent decorations. To make Santa, you’ll need cotton wool, red card, googly eyes, any skin-coloured card and a bauble for his nose. Simply stick all the items down and you’ll have your own figure to place around the house.
5. Paintbrush Santas
This is such a clever craft that many of us would never think of. Many flat paintbrushes come with a red handle. Others can be painted red. Either way, add some white spots to it with paint. Next, glue some felt or cotton wool to the thickest part of the handle, before it becomes the brush. Stick some googly eyes and a red bauble on underneath this and make a sprig of holly using red and green coloured paper. Stick the holly to the felt and your Paintbrush Santa is complete! The brush’s bristles will act as the perfect beard for your Santa.
